My work explores the relationship between shape, color, texture and chance. Through the framework of hard edge abstraction I make art that is both highly planned and open to improvisation. My practice over the years has allowed me to develop a way of working with paint that leaves room to be open and playful. Layers of solid paint give way to partially washed layers. Gray tinted grounds lay the foundation for unique and contrasting color combinations as they vibrate across the canvas. Other times more subtle variations calm the senses as simple bands of color tie the pieces together and create a sense of cohesiveness. In my art, Like a piece of live jazz, there is room for solid form as well as improvisation and that is what I hope to convey through my work. Hope you Enjoy!
